Students in all my classes will attest: I love proverbs and rely on them constantly to help me think, understand, and explain not just Irish culture and language, but also life itself which the proverbs illuminate brilliantly.
This morning I conceived the idea of sharing some of my favorite Irish proverbs with you in hopes that they will be as helpful and nourishing to you as they are to me.
Here is the first:
Maireann croi eadrom i bhfad.
A light heart lives a long time.
There’s a bit more to it than that, though, as I explore in the video. There’s an essential skill that helps us to live that light-heartedness and one that, if cultivated, serves us for a long, happy life.
